To mark UK Sausage Week Higginsons of Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, has launched a ‘Design your own sausage’ competition. The participants get the chance to feature their name in Higginsons’ sausage ‘hall of fame’.

The retail butcher’s customers can make up their sausage design from a selection of ingredients and name their creation. The winning entry will then be made and sold in the shop and the winner will walk away with an armful of their newly created sausages.

Stuart Higginson, owner of Higginsons commented: “We like to run a competition every year for UK Sausage Week, which always falls around Bonfire Night. It’s nice to get customers actively involved and this year, we hope that plenty of people will enter. We already sell around 60 sausage varieties in the shop so customers will have to be creative to come up with something new and exciting!”

Higginsons is also producing some seasonal specials for the week, sourcing local ingredients.

Mark Porter, general manager at Higginsons said: “Our Cumberland Firecracker sausage is a twist on our best-selling traditional Cumberland recipe with a good amount of heat, that leaves a nice zing on your tongue. We will also be making our Sticky Toffee Apple sausage which has a sweetness that the kids love, made with the famous, local Cartmel Sticky Toffee sauce. Our Smoky Chipotle Sausage has an earthy and smoky barbecue flavour to it, which is perfect with some relish in a finger bun.”
