It’s time to enter your sausages into the annual UK Sausage Week competition ahead of the 10th September deadline.

Calling all butchers, manufacturers and supermarkets! Do you think you’ve got award-winning sausages? Then don’t be a silly sausage, enter them into the UK Sausage Week competition before 10th September.

UK Sausage Week is returning between 29th October and 4th November 2018 and, once again, proceedings will kick-off with the campaign’s annual competition.

Winning sausages could mean a massive boost to business – so butchers, manufacturers and retailers are encouraged to enter their products without delay.

Product judging will take place at Harper Adams University and will once again be headed up by chief judge Keith Fisher, chief executive of the Institute of Meat. He will be supported by a number of industry experts, including members of Ladies in Pigs.

There are two categories to enter: Traditional and Innovative. Entry is free and each company may enter a maximum of two types of traditional sausage and two types of innovative sausage.

Products will be judged by region: North, North East, North West, East Midlands, West Midlands, South East, South West, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Judges will also select winners for Best Foodservice Sausage, Best Manufacturer Own Brand Sausage and Best Supermarket/Multiple Retailer Sausage.

The winners will be announced during a celebration lunch at London’s Plaisterers’ Hall on 29th October where an overall winner will also scoop the accolade of UK Supreme Sausage Champion.

UK Sausage Week organiser Emma Cash said: “We have already seen a strong response to the competition since the 2018 entry process opened. We’re looking at everything from pork and beef sausages through to chicken and game meats and we’re also anticipating some interesting ingredients combinations.

“With 10th September fast approaching, I would encourage anyone else who has a product they feel could be a winner to enter their sausages without delay.”

In addition to running the competition, the organisers of UK Sausage Week – Meat Management magazine – will be supporting industry by providing an official poster to display, as well as a logo to print and use for product labels. The magazine will also compile and publish a selection of sizzling sausage recipes for businesses.
