Pubs, hotels and restaurants across the UK are getting in on the UK Sausage Week action by offering sizzling specials to customers and creating dedicated sausage menus.
One example is The Lock Inn in Wolverley – a family-run pub that prides itself on promoting local produce and British meat, which has launced a Special Sausage Week Menu.
The pub is mainly known for its Bishop’s British beef, home-reared on the family farm a mile away, and showcases a variety of hearty-beef dishes. However, the chance to promote pork in all its glory whilst supporting locally sourced produce was too good to miss, so UK Sausage Week is firmly on the menu.
General manager and head chef Andrew Bishop told Meat Management: “We really care about promoting local and fresh food at The Lock Inn. Good quality meat is essential for a balanced diet and we feel is much tastier, but we know that some customers are concerned about meat prices as well as being put-off by a lack of understanding around meat cuts. So, this year we decided to highlight just how special a meal can be when it’s made from something as humble and well-known as the simple sausage, when it’s good quality. Meat doesn’t have to be expensive to be full of flavour and make a tasty meal.”
The Lock Inn’s Special Sausage Week Menu offers customers the opportunity to taste different flavours within a sausage wrapping. The pub decided to try something new and get customers to personalise their meals by constructing their own dishes choosing the flavour of sausages from a variety of options, and a choice of sides.
Andrew added: “By customers getting to construct their own meal in a relaxed and comfortable environment the whole meal becomes more of an ‘event’ and hopefully helps build customer confidence in choosing meats and flavours that are a little more adventurous as well as enjoying a great tasting meal.”
Other foodservice establishments celebrating UK Sausage Week include the Fur & Feather pub in Woodbastwick which is offering special chorizo sausages, Seven Brothers beerhouse in Ancoats which is serving ‘Grandad’s Sausages’, The George Hotel which is offering sausages in its bar and at lunch time all week, The Gables Hotel which is also offering sausages in its bar and also its brasserie all week and the Moor Hall Hotel which is selling locally produced sausages in its Country Kitchen and Lounge Bar – to name just a few!
