Shoppers in Bradford, Yorkshire, celebrated UK Sausage Week last week with a special sausage tasting event in the Bradford Council-run Oastler Shopping Centre on Wednesday 1st November.

Butchers from the market donated ten varieties of sausages for people to try for free, including award winning sausages, a special halal sausage and even a vegetarian sausage.

The butchers involved included A J Pickups, J Hutchinsons, Taplins, Claydens, Hollands, Roswitas Deli and Ikhlas Halal Meat who all have stall in the Oastler Shopping Centre.

Jamie’s Ministry of Food Bradford cooked the sausages for people to try and demonstrated how to cook sausage-based meals using fresh produce from a variety of stalls within the Oastler Shopping Centre.

Khansa Tufail, Bradford Council’s markets promotions and projects officer, said: “We have some really great butchers in our Oastler Shopping Centre and celebrating UK Sausage Week in this way gives people the opportunity to try out their produce.”

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, also commented: “Having the new events space is great for running taster sessions like these and we’re pleased to be able to showcase our excellent butchers at the Oastler Market.”

Stuart Smith from J Hutchinson Butchers, said: “We have a new sausage variety this year, black pudding and pork sausage and we were really looking forward to getting some tasters out for these. UK Sausage Week is a great time for shoppers to try out some of our produce. What’s great about markets is that you get to know your customers and can give them a personal customer experience.”

UK Sausage Week 2017, designed by Meat Management Magazine, ran from 30th October until 5th November and included a variety of sausage themed events, promotions and competitions across the UK.
