Recording the start of this year’s UK Sausage Week (UKSW) a brand new film of the UKSW Awards is now live online, together with a photo gallery of all the winners.
The event is organised by Meat Management magazine and editor Pam Brook said: “The short film provides a taste of how Meat Management, which organises UK Sausage Week, is helping to put the sizzle into UKSW and reward and support retailers, large and small, together with foodservice and of course manufacturers, who make such fabulous, tasty and popular products.
“It really captures the atmosphere of the celebration lunch that took place on Monday 28th October at the newly refurbished Butchers’ Hall in London which was such a brilliant start to the week. UK Sausage Week is attracting a good deal of media attention too, which is great for the trade.”
Around 130 guests gathered at Butchers’ Hall for the lunch and presentations, and social media has been buzzing with positive messages from the winners since. National and local radio have been actively featuring UKSW and in addition, national TV has picked up on it right across the country.
Celebrity chef, Lesley Waters presented the winners with their awards and left the audience in no doubt about why she loves the great British banger: “They are a family food, a comfort food, we all grew up with them. They evoke cosy feelings…bangers n’ mash is just one example! It’s the iconic British dish – what’s not to like?”
Lesley also debated the hot topic of to: “Prick or not to prick” before cooking and offered the conclusion that: “Not to prick” is best.
Tristan Powter, sales director at Powters, the winner of the Best Manufacturer / Own Brand Sausage category, for its Newmarket Pig Sausages was enthusiastic saying: “We are honoured to be given this fantastic award at this year’s UK Sausage Week 2019 competition. It’s a large, well-respected industry competition, so we are delighted to scoop this prize.”
Retailer Martin Player, winner in the Traditional category in Wales for its Traditional Thick Pork Sausage added: “Our customers are always telling us we make the best sausage and that their kids won’t eat any others, but it is always good to be recognised by the people in our industry who know what is involved in making a great sausage.
“We are donating 300 of our award-winning sausages to the Prostate Cymru charity this weekend. They are hosting a Big Breakfast event to raise money for their charity.”
Building on the UK Sausage Week success story, planning is already underway for the 2020 UK Sausage Week and the next celebration lunch will take place at Butchers’ Hall on Monday 26th October 2020.
